June 7, 2004 - June 8, 2004I had been worried about storms since I left Sea Gate earlier that day. But if I didn't travel on days when storms were predicted, I wouldn't move another inch. So I left - and ran right into the eye of a massive electrical storm. Not much wind, but so much rain that the day markers were invisible - I had to rely on my GPS completely for the first time. I tracked back and forth between two known points for over an hour until the rain subsided and I could see the day markers again. The lightening was pretty intense, and striking all around me (I could see THAT!), but the wind at least was only about 5-6 knots. Big sigh of relief. I was drenched, but not cold and I was on my way again! I sure was happy to tie up at Dudley's Marina and happier still that I could just sidle up to a dock and didn't have to back into some remote and difficult slip! I walked up to the marina store, where a large 60 year old parrot tried to take a piece out of my arm. But I was on guard when I saw him. Although he is a beautiful bird - I believe he is what is called a scarlet - parrots can be a little choosy about making new friends. Apparently I was not on his hit parade and the cashier told me that almost nobody was. Including her. So I walked carefully around his perch, got some ice and went back to Doublewide and got some well deserved sleep. |
